Can I use real first names and nicknames in my autobiography?

I'm writing a book on real events that took place in my life. I want to use real first and nicknames. Last names will NOT be stated. Is this ok to do without risk of being sued? A lot of bad events occurred between myself and the people whose real name I want to use, but since it actually happened I should be safe right?
